The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded to two separate road-related emergencies in the Greater Accra Region on Saturday, August 22, 2026, containing a diesel spill from a bus crash at Fise and extinguishing a trailer fire at McCarthy Hill.

At Fise, personnel from the Amasaman Fire Station responded to an incident involving a VIP Yutong bus that had collided with a concrete barricade.

The impact caused a diesel leak and damaged parts of the bus, including the bumper, side glass and side door. Firefighters contained the fuel-related hazard and secured the scene to prevent further danger.

No casualties were recorded. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Later, at McCarthy Hill, the Weija Fire Station crew responded to a fire involving a MAN diesel trailer. The blaze was already underway when firefighters arrived.

According to the fire service, the crew brought the fire “under control at 0813hrs” and “fully extinguished it at 0901hrs.”

The fire extensively damaged the head section of the trailer, while the trailer section was partially affected. No casualties were reported.

Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.

The two incidents highlight the importance of rapid emergency response, particularly where road crashes involve fuel leaks or heavy commercial vehicles, which can pose significant risks to motorists, nearby residents and property.

GNFS officials are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding both incidents as investigations continue.
