The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Rev. Dame Sarah Mullally, has continued her official visit to Ghana with a series of engagements in the Ashanti Region after spending four days in Accra.

Her first stop in the region was Asante Mampong, where she paid a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of Asante Mampong before meeting members of the Anglican community at St. Michael and All Angels Cathedral, the seat of the Bishop of the Diocese of Asante Mampong, the Most Rev. Dr. Cyril Kobina Ben-Smith.

The Archbishop interacted with clergy and congregants during a brief engagement at the cathedral, highlighting the Anglican Communion’s commitment to strengthening ties with the Church in Ghana.

She later visited the St. Monica educational institutions in Asante Mampong, where she unveiled a newly constructed entrance complex and clinic.

The visit drew enthusiastic crowds as teacher trainees, nursing students and senior high school students welcomed the Archbishop, with chants of “Have you heard? She is here!” echoing across the campus as she mingled with students and staff.

The Ashanti leg of her visit concluded at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, where she paid a courtesy call on the Asantehene.

Accompanied by bishops of the Internal Province of Ghana, Archbishop Sarah participated in a special service at the palace before being granted an audience with the Asante monarch.

The visit marked a significant moment for the Anglican Church in the Ashanti Region, particularly for the Dioceses of Kumasi and Asante Mampong, which hosted the Archbishop during the historic tour.

The Archbishop is expected to continue her visit to the Central Region as part of her itinerary in Ghana.
