The Minority in Ghana’s Parliament has criticized the recent military and police display in Accra, describing it as unnecessary and a misallocation of government resources.
The joint show of force, held on Thursday, December 11, 2025, involved troops, armored vehicles, and tactical equipment parading on city streets to demonstrate readiness for the Christmas season.
Addressing journalists, Ranking Member of the Defence and Interior Committee, Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, argued that the exercise should have been conducted in actual conflict zones rather than in the capital.
“If you want to show force… Accra is not a street where you march out this show of force. It was misplaced, it was inappropriate,” he said, highlighting that flashpoints like Bawku, Gbinyiri, and illegal mining sites deserved attention instead.
Reverend Fordjour emphasized that resources spent on the Accra display could have better supported security operations where lives are at risk, including areas plagued by violent conflicts and illegal mining.
He urged the government to redirect its security efforts to high-risk regions where intervention is truly needed.
