The Minister of State in Charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has clarified comments made by President John Dramani Mahama concerning the release of GH¢150 million following the circulation of a video on social media.
In a Facebook post on Monday, July 27, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu said the President’s reference to the release of GH¢150 million was specifically about funds for post-flood mitigation works.
His clarification comes after the video gained widespread attention online, with different interpretations being given to the President’s remarks.
According to the Minister, attempts to link the President’s comments to other matters misrepresent the context of the discussion.
“Some misguided elements have sought to distort the President’s words in this video to achieve narrow partisan ends,” he wrote.
“The President clearly speaks of the “release” of GHS 150 million which was in direct reference to funds for post-flood mitigation works.”
Mr Kwakye Ofosu explained that the President was discussing the funds with the National Security Coordinator and that his comments did not relate to any other issue.
“That is what he was discussing with the National Security Coordinator and nothing more,” he stated.
He subsequently urged the public to disregard claims suggesting otherwise.
“Disregard the mischievous lies!” he added.
