Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong has expressed deep sorrow over the devastating fire outbreak that ravaged several trading shops in Adum, the Central Business District of the Ashanti Region. He extended his heartfelt sympathies to the affected traders and families who have lost their livelihoods due to the tragedy.
“At a time when people are striving to rebuild their businesses, such a setback is truly heartbreaking. You are not alone—we stand together as one nation,” he assured the victims.
A Call for Urgent Action on Market Fires
As a businessman himself, Hon. Agyapong acknowledged the hard work, sacrifices, and dreams that go into building a business. He described the loss as “painful beyond words” and shared in the frustration of those affected.
Market fires, he noted, have become far too frequent in Ghana, and it is time for real action. He called on the Ghana National Fire Service, the Police, and all relevant security agencies to work together to implement lasting solutions that will prevent such disasters.
“We need safer markets, better emergency access, and reliable fire prevention systems. Protecting our traders means protecting Ghana’s future,” he emphasized.
Support for Victims and Commitment to Rebuilding
Although currently out of the country, Hon. Agyapong has dispatched a team to assess the situation and provide immediate support to the affected traders. He further promised to personally visit the market upon his return to meet with victims and discuss solutions for the future.
To the resilient people of Kejetia, Adum, Dr. Mensah, and Roman Hill, he urged them not to lose hope.
“Ghana is strong because of its people, and together, we will rebuild. Let us unite, support one another, and work to prevent such tragedies in the future.”
Hon. Agyapong prayed for strength and comfort for all those affected and reaffirmed his commitment to advocating for better market safety measures to protect Ghanaian traders.
