The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor, has embarked on a strategic working visit with key power sector stakeholders to explore global best practices in energy storage technology and operations.
The visit is focused on engaging with industry pioneers to gain insights into advanced operational frameworks, technological innovations, and efficient management systems for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
The benchmarking exercise forms part of government’s preparations towards the rollout of the first phase of Ghana’s landmark 200-megawatt (MW) Battery Energy Storage System project, aimed at strengthening the country’s power grid and supporting renewable energy integration.
During the visit, Dr. Jinapor and the delegation observed the operations of sophisticated utility-scale battery storage facilities, providing valuable lessons on the design, deployment, and management of large-scale energy storage infrastructure.
According to the Energy Minister, the knowledge acquired from the engagements will help guide Ghana’s implementation of a resilient and efficient solar-integrated power system that meets international standards.
He said the exposure would provide the necessary blueprint to ensure that Ghana’s upcoming BESS project is built to deliver reliability, improved grid stability, and enhanced energy security.
