Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Jinapor, has outlined key reforms and investments in Ghana’s energy sector at a national consultation on Ghana’s Country Partnership Framework (CPF) 2027–2032 with the World Bank Group.

The consultation brought together Dr Jinapor and other senior government officials, including the Ministers for Finance, Trade and Industry, and Roads and Highways, to discuss Ghana’s development priorities and the country’s partnership with the World Bank Group.

The CPF 2027–2032 is expected to provide a framework for aligning World Bank support with Ghana’s development priorities and mobilising resources to accelerate economic transformation.

Speaking at the consultation, Dr Jinapor said the engagement provided an opportunity for stakeholders to assess Ghana’s progress, reflect on current challenges and consider the kind of economy the country seeks to build in the coming years.

He said it was encouraging that the World Bank Group had recognised progress made by Ghana in restoring economic stability and advancing economic transformation under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama.

Dr Jinapor highlighted a number of reforms undertaken by the government since assuming office, including what he described as prudent management of the cash waterfall mechanism.

He also pointed to reforms across the electricity distribution sector and investments aimed at strengthening and modernising Ghana’s power transmission system.

According to the Energy Minister, the government is also rolling out Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to help meet peak electricity demand while improving the reliability and resilience of the national power system.

He said the measures formed part of broader efforts to address challenges within the energy sector and create a more reliable electricity supply to support economic activity.

Dr Jinapor expressed confidence that continued collaboration with development partners would help Ghana build on the progress already achieved and create new opportunities for citizens.

He said the CPF consultation was therefore important in ensuring that the country’s engagement with the World Bank Group remained aligned with Ghana’s priorities and long-term development ambitions.

The CPF 2027–2032 is expected to guide the World Bank Group’s engagement with Ghana over the period and support programmes aimed at advancing the country’s economic and social transformation.
