The Ministry for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts has announced the immediate reopening of Ussher Fort and James Fort to the public following a temporary closure for safety reviews and restoration works.
According to the Ministry, consultations with the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board (GMMB) have ensured that sufficient safety measures are now in place, allowing visitors to access the historic sites without compromising their safety or ongoing restoration activities.
Visitors, tour guides, and operators are required to adhere to strict access guidelines and monitoring mechanisms. The Ministry emphasized that unauthorized entry into restricted areas remains prohibited.
In a statement, the Ministry said the earlier closure “was issued purely in the interest of public safety,” and thanked the public for their understanding.
Minister Abla Dzifa Gomashie reaffirmed the government’s commitment to preserving Ghana’s cultural heritage while keeping historic sites accessible, safe, and educational for all.
