Government of Ghana has paid GH¢10.816 billion to bondholders under the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP), fulfilling its latest coupon obligation in full and in cash.

The Ministry of Finance, in a statement on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, said the payment brings the total amount paid to DDEP bondholders since 2025 to GH¢41.36 billion.

“This is the third DDEP coupon payment made fully in cash. It was paid in full and on schedule,” the Ministry stated.

The payment follows an assurance by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson during the presentation of the 2026 Mid-Year Fiscal Policy Review to Parliament on July 23 that the government would settle the GH¢10.8 billion obligation by August 18.

“The seventh DDEP coupon payment of 10.8 billion cedis falls due on the 18th of August 2026. Let me use this opportunity to assure this House that it will be paid on time and in full,” Dr. Forson told Parliament.

The DDEP was introduced in December 2022 as part of Ghana’s broader debt restructuring programme to restore debt sustainability. It involved the exchange of existing domestic bonds for new instruments with revised terms, affecting holdings of banks, pension funds, insurance companies, individual investors and other creditors.

The latest payment is the seventh coupon obligation under the restructured domestic debt programme. The government had earlier paid GH¢10.1 billion in February 2026 as its sixth DDEP coupon payment, which the Finance Ministry said was also made on time and in full.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the timely settlement demonstrates the government’s commitment to meeting its debt obligations and is expected to strengthen investor confidence.

“The timely payment demonstrates Government’s fiscal discipline and firm commitment to meeting all its debt obligations. It will strengthen investor confidence, reduce sovereign default risk and reinforce Ghana’s financial credibility,” the statement said.

The government also assured bondholders and investors that future obligations under the DDEP would be honoured as scheduled.

“Government assures bondholders, investors and the public that all future DDEP obligations will also be paid in full and on schedule,” the Ministry stated.

The latest payment comes amid broader efforts by the government to restore Ghana’s credibility in domestic and international debt markets.

In July, the government also fully settled a US$700 million Eurobond obligation ahead of schedule, bringing its total payments to Eurobond holders since January 2025 to US$2.1 billion.
