Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak has announced that Ghana has emerged among the top performers in Interpol’s Africa-wide cybercrime crackdown, Operation Contender 3.
The operation, conducted in August 2025, brought together 14 African member states to disrupt cybercrime networks and protect victims.
Ghana’s Cybercrime Unit of the Police Service recorded significant results, arresting 68 suspects, rescuing 108 victims, and confiscating 885 electronic devices linked to online fraud and other illicit activities.
Mr. Mohammed-Mubarak, speaking at the launch of National Cyber Security Awareness Month in Accra, said the achievement demonstrates government’s commitment to safeguarding the country’s digital space and contributing to the global fight against cybercrime.
He said, “The Cybercrime Unit of the Ghana Police Service proudly participated in the Operation Contender 3 in August 2025, a major initiative led by the Interpol, which brought together 14 African member states to combat cybercrime and dismantle transnational criminal networks across the continent and beyond.”
“I’m pleased to note that Ghana distinguished itself during this operation by emerging among the top-performing countries. Our Cybercrime Unit successfully arrested 68 suspected cybercriminals, identified 108 victims, and seized over 885 electronic devices linked to illicit activities. This remarkable achievement underscores the unwavering commitment of the Government of Ghana to safeguarding our digital space, protecting our citizens, and contributing to the global fight against cybercrime.”
