The Ghana Scholarships Secretariat has cleared all outstanding tuition obligations owed to the University of Memphis in the United States under the government-funded scholarship programme.
Sources close to The Overseer Media say Ghana currently has no outstanding debt to the university following payments made to settle tuition arrears involving Ghanaian scholarship beneficiaries.
The development follows concerns over Ghana’s financial obligations to the university, which had reportedly affected the scholarship arrangement and raised uncertainty over the academic status of nearly 100 Ghanaian students.
The University of Memphis had previously indicated that Ghana owed close to US$4 million in unpaid tuition fees.
The dispute reportedly led the university to suspend its scholarship partnership with the Ghanaian government, leaving affected students concerned about their continued enrolment and academic progress.
The arrears had reportedly stood at about US$3.6 million in July 2025, after which Ghana made two separate payments of US$1 million each in August 2025.
The sources said a latest payment of about US$3.5 million has now cleared the outstanding tuition obligations.
They said the development means Ghana no longer owes the University of Memphis under the affected scholarship arrangement.
The payment is expected to ease concerns among the affected students and provide greater certainty regarding their continued enrolment and academic programmes.
