IMANI Africa blasts Lands Minister over Adamus licence revocation

President of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has called on the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, to review the Minerals Commission’s handling of Adamus Resources following the revocation of the company’s mining licence.

Mr Cudjoe questioned the processes followed by the Minerals Commission, arguing that the company was not afforded the due process required under Ghana’s Minerals and Mining Act, 2006 (Act 703), before its mining leases were revoked.

While commending Minister Buah for his efforts to combat illegal mining and protect Ghana’s natural resources, Mr Cudjoe warned that the Adamus controversy could undermine the minister’s broader achievements if the matter was not handled properly.

He praised the minister’s decision to reverse the takeover of portions of the Achimota Forest but urged him to take steps to protect legitimate mining operations and Ghana’s investment environment.

“The Minister must protect his reputation from whimsical, plundering acts cloaked as legal actions by agencies like the Minerals Commission,” he said.

Mr Cudjoe alleged that the action against Adamus was based on a rushed investigation conducted over three days and did not comply with the procedures stipulated under Act 703.

“Having seen all documentation, I have no doubt the accusations against Adamus are heavily contrived and choreographed over just three investigative days, without following Act 703’s rules,” he asserted.

He also criticised the decision to establish an Interim Management Committee to oversee the company’s operations, describing the move as an improper seizure of the company’s assets.

According to Mr Cudjoe, the Minerals Commission acted hastily in recommending the revocation and subsequent takeover of Adamus Resources.

He appealed directly to Minister Buah to distance himself from what he described as unlawful actions.

“My dear friend Minister Buah, these acts of banditry must not be committed in your name. The Minerals Commission is wrong and has handed you a poisoned chalice,” he said.

The comments add to growing criticism from civil society organisations over the government’s decision to revoke the Adamus mining licence, with critics describing the action as excessive and arbitrary.

The controversy has consequently raised broader questions about regulatory due process, investor confidence and the management of Ghana’s mining sector.
