The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has warned the public against promoting the sobolo drink associated with Prophet Stephen Adom Kyei-Duah as a medicinal product, insisting that the beverage has not been registered as a medicine and has no scientific basis for approval as such.

A senior FDA official, Dr Martin Kusi, explained that while sobolo is generally classified as a beverage, its status changes when claims are made that it can cure, treat, or prevent diseases.

He said any product advertised with medicinal properties must first undergo scientific evaluation and receive regulatory approval from the FDA before it can be marketed for such purposes.

Addressing the controversy surrounding the drink linked to the founder and leader of Believers Worship Centre, Dr Kusi stated that the product has not been approved as a medicine, adding that there is no scientific basis for such approval.

He cautioned that presenting food or beverages as drugs without the required approval is unlawful and could attract regulatory action. According to him, the FDA’s mandate is to assess scientific evidence behind health claims and not claims based on spirituality or personal belief.

The FDA urged consumers to be cautious about products promoted with claims of healing or disease prevention and to verify whether such products have gone through the appropriate regulatory processes before use
