Families of the eight people who died in the August 6, 2025 military helicopter crash have marked the first anniversary of the tragedy with tributes honouring their loved ones and reflecting on their contributions to Ghana.
At a memorial service held to remember the fallen heroes, representatives of the bereaved families paid tribute to the lives lost, highlighting their service, dedication and the impact they had on their families, communities and the nation.
The service brought together relatives, government officials, military authorities, religious leaders, traditional leaders, friends and well-wishers who joined in remembering the victims a year after the incident.
The August 6, 2025 crash involved a Ghana Armed Forces helicopter that went down in the Adansi area of the Ashanti Region while travelling from Accra to Obuasi for an official assignment. All eight people on board died in the accident.
The victims were Defence Minister Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah; Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed; Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna; National Democratic Congress Vice Chairman Samuel Sarpong; former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye; Squadron Leader Peter Baafemi Anala; Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
The families, in their separate tributes, expressed appreciation to the government, security agencies, religious bodies and members of the public for the support extended to them since the tragedy.
They acknowledged the difficulty of the past year while celebrating the legacies of the deceased and their commitment to national service.
The memorial service also served as a moment of solidarity among the bereaved families, who continue to mourn the loss of their loved ones while finding comfort in the memories and contributions they left behind.
