Supporters of Eric Adjei have constituted an exploratory team to assess his chances of contesting for the position of Deputy General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), as the party prepares for its reorganization ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The move, according to sources within the group, forms part of early consultations aimed at gauging support across the country and determining the viability of a potential bid before any formal declaration is made.
Members of the team contend that Eric Adjei has distinguished himself through dedicated service to the party, particularly in his role as Deputy Regional Communications Officer in the Bono Region and as a committed member of the party’s National Communications Team. They believe his experience within the party’s communication architecture positions him as a suitable candidate for higher responsibility at the national level.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Team Leader Yakubu Iddrisu stated that bringing Eric Agyei to the party’s national headquarters as Deputy General Secretary would enhance professionalism and strengthen internal coordination.
“Bringing Eric Adjei to the national headquarters as Deputy General Secretary will add decency and sanity to the Deputy General Secretary portfolio. His calm nature and legal background will bring respect to the office,” he said.
He further emphasized that with the NDC currently in government, the party requires individuals with emotional intelligence and measured communication skills to help manage sensitive political issues and maintain party discipline.
“Being in power, the NDC needs people with emotional intelligence who know what to say and what not to say in public,” Yakubu Iddrisu added.
The exploratory team, which comprises sixteen members and is headed by Yakubu Iddrisu, is expected to undertake consultations across all sixteen regions of the country. Other members of the team, whose names have been withheld, will reportedly be assigned to various regions to discreetly engage party stakeholders and solicit views on Eric Agyei’s potential candidacy.
According to the group, the consultations will culminate in a comprehensive report assessing Eric Adjei’s viability for the Deputy General Secretary position. The team has been given six weeks to complete its nationwide engagement and present its findings.
However, credible information available to The Overseer indicates that Eric Adjei who currently serves as Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), is not aware of the formation of the exploratory team and has not endorsed the initiative.
The development is expected to spark interest within party circles as the NDC gradually builds momentum toward its internal reorganization ahead of the 2028 general elections
