The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has cautioned the public against fraudulent SMS messages and online payment links being used by scammers to collect money under the pretext of paying fines.
In a notice on Tuesday October 21, 2026, the Authority said fraudsters were sending text messages containing links that redirect recipients to fake platforms, where they are asked to pay supposed DVLA fines.
According to the DVLA, some of the messages create a sense of urgency by imposing payment deadlines or promising discounts to convince unsuspecting individuals to make payments.
The Authority has, however, stressed that the messages are fraudulent and urged the public to disregard them.
“The DVLA does not offer discounts on fines,” the notice stated, warning that any SMS, website, platform or individual claiming to provide discounted fines on its behalf should be treated as fraudulent.
The Authority further clarified that the only acceptable online payment gateway for its transactions is the Government of Ghana’s official payment platform, Ghana.gov.gh.
It also reminded the public that its official website is www.dvla.gov.gh, cautioning against the use of other websites, shortened links or unofficial payment platforms claiming to represent the Authority.
The DVLA advised motorists and other members of the public not to click on suspicious links, disclose personal information or transfer money through unapproved platforms.
It encouraged individuals to verify information concerning its services and payments through its official website, recognised DVLA offices and approved public communication channels before taking any action.
The Authority also urged anyone who receives suspicious messages to report them to the nearest DVLA office or the appropriate law enforcement agency for further investigation.
The warning comes amid concerns over online fraud schemes in which scammers impersonate legitimate institutions to deceive the public into making payments or disclosing sensitive information.
Such schemes can expose victims to financial losses and the misuse of their personal information, particularly when fraudulent links are designed to resemble official payment platforms.
The DVLA reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the public against fraudulent activities and ensuring that all official transactions are conducted through secure and approved channels.
