The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has launched a nationwide stakeholder engagement programme following the passage of the Ghana Cocoa Board Bill, 2026, aimed at building awareness and ensuring the effective implementation of the new legislation across the cocoa sector.
The first engagement was held at Cocoa House in Accra, where representatives of cocoa farmer-based organisations, Civil Society groups and the Licensed Cocoa Buyers Association of Ghana (LICOBAG) met to discuss the key provisions of the new law and its implications for the industry.
The session was led by the Chief Executive of COCOBOD, Dr. Randy Abbey, together with members of the Board’s management team.
Discussions focused on the Bill’s provisions relating to COCOBOD’s mandate, statutory obligations, regulatory oversight, financing policy and the producer pricing framework.
Participants also examined issues including cocoa farm protection, traceability, licensing requirements and the farmer pension scheme, with emphasis on the responsibilities of the various stakeholder groups under the new legal framework.
According to COCOBOD, the stakeholder engagement exercise will continue at the national level before being extended to the regional, district and cocoa society levels to promote a broad understanding of the new law and support its smooth implementation.
The Board said the initiative forms part of efforts to strengthen collaboration with industry stakeholders and ensure the successful rollout of the Ghana Cocoa Board Bill, 2026.
