The Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF) has extended its nationwide healthcare support to nine additional hospitals with the delivery of critical medical equipment as part of activities marking the Fund’s first anniversary.

The intervention, undertaken under the GMTF’s “Day of Giving” initiative, is aimed at strengthening diagnostic and emergency care while helping beneficiary facilities improve the quality and timeliness of services to patients.

The equipment delivered includes ultrasound machines, oxygen concentrators, an oxygen plant, X-ray machines and printers, based on identified needs at the respective facilities.

The beneficiary hospitals are Volta Regional Hospital, Sefwi-Wiawso Government Hospital, Bole Municipal Hospital, Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Worawora Government Hospital, Wa Municipal Hospital, Kumasi South Hospital, Eastern Regional Hospital and Northern Regional Hospital.

The latest intervention adds to a series of equipment and other healthcare support initiatives undertaken by the GMTF since its establishment, as the Fund continues to direct resources towards critical gaps affecting healthcare delivery.

Rather than marking its first anniversary solely with ceremonial activities, the GMTF has used the occasion to undertake practical interventions intended to strengthen health facilities and improve patient care.

At the Volta Regional Hospital, the ultrasound machines are expected to enhance diagnostic capacity and support health professionals in making timely clinical decisions.

The equipment will enable essential imaging services to be provided closer to the point of care, potentially helping to reduce delays in diagnosis.

At the Worawora Government Hospital, the intervention is also expected to strengthen diagnostic services by providing healthcare professionals with additional tools to assess and manage patients.

Management of the Bole Municipal Hospital expressed appreciation for the support, saying improved access to essential equipment would contribute to better service delivery and help ease some of the pressures faced by healthcare workers.

At the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, the Medical Director, Dr Leslie Issah Adam Zakariah, commended the GMTF for the intervention and pledged the hospital’s continued collaboration with the Fund.

He assured the GMTF that the equipment would be put to effective use to improve patient care and support healthcare professionals in performing their duties.

The latest distribution forms part of the GMTF’s broader approach of identifying critical gaps in health facilities and directing resources towards areas where equipment shortages can affect diagnosis, emergency response and treatment.

Since commencing operations, the Fund has supported health facilities with medical equipment and infrastructure interventions, alongside support for patients requiring specialised and chronic disease care.

The Administrator of the GMTF, Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, said the Fund would continue engaging health facilities to identify pressing needs and develop interventions capable of producing measurable improvements.

She said the decision to include equipment support in the first-anniversary activities reflected the GMTF’s commitment to translating its work into tangible benefits for healthcare professionals and patients.

According to her, the Fund would continue to focus on areas where targeted interventions could strengthen healthcare delivery and improve access to essential services.

For the nine beneficiary hospitals, the impact of the latest intervention is expected to be reflected in the services delivered to patients once the equipment is put into use.

The support is expected to give health professionals improved access to diagnostic and emergency-care equipment while strengthening the capacity of facilities to respond to the needs of their communities.

As the GMTF marks its first anniversary, the latest distribution represents another step in its efforts to address equipment gaps and strengthen healthcare delivery across Ghana.
