Accra Mayor Michael Nii Kpakpo Allotey has urged members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Okaikoi South Constituency to maintain peace and follow police guidelines as they vote to elect new constituency executives.
Speaking upon his arrival at the Nii Ankra Palace, where the constituency’s election was being held, Mr Allotey said the process had been peaceful so far.
“So far, it has been peaceful since I got here. NDC is a peaceful party, so what else do you expect than to have peace?” he said.
He urged party members to comply with instructions from the police to ensure the exercise proceeded without incidents.
“We have advised that everybody should just follow the police guidelines,” he added.
The mayor also reminded delegates and supporters that the party’s unity should remain a priority, regardless of the outcome of the election.
“After all, we are one party, and whatever we do, one person is going to win. After that, we all come together and work for 2028,” he said.
Mr Allotey did not publicly disclose his preferred candidate, choosing instead to keep his voting decision private.
“I’m a father, and I only know who I’m going to vote for,” he stated.
The election forms part of the NDC’s internal processes to select constituency-level leaders who will oversee party activities and mobilisation in their respective areas.
The newly elected executives are expected to help strengthen the party’s grassroots structures and coordinate its activities ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The mayor’s call for calm comes as the party undertakes its internal reorganisation, with peaceful elections and unity considered important to maintaining cohesion among members as the NDC prepares for future political contests.
