The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has announced the deployment of new state-of-the-art security screening equipment at passenger checkpoints in Terminals 2 and 3 of the Accra International Airport.
The upgrade, according to GACL, is aimed at strengthening aviation security standards while making the screening process faster and more convenient for passengers.
Under the new system, passengers will no longer be required to remove laptops and other large electronic devices from their cabin baggage during screening.
The company also announced that travellers will generally be allowed to keep their shoes and belts on during the screening process, except where additional security checks or profiling require otherwise.
Additionally, passengers will be permitted to keep Liquids, Aerosols and Gels (LAGs) in their cabin baggage during screening, as separate removal and screening of such items may no longer be necessary under the new technology.
However, GACL reminded passengers that existing security regulations remain in force, including the restriction on liquids exceeding 100 millilitres per container.
The new system also includes an Automatic Tray Return System, which is expected to speed up the return of trays to passengers after screening and reduce waiting times during the repacking process.
GACL explained that the transition to the new equipment will be implemented gradually in phases, alongside existing security procedures and equipment, to ensure a smooth migration.
The company has urged passengers and other stakeholders to cooperate as the new screening technology is introduced at the airport.
