Parliament’s Appointments Committee will commence the vetting of seven nominees to the Supreme Court from Monday, June 16 to Wednesday, June 18, 2025.
The nominees were selected by President John Dramani Mahama in accordance with Article 144(2) of the 1992 Constitution, which mandates the President to appoint Supreme Court Justices in consultation with the Council of State and with the approval of Parliament.
All seven nominees currently serve on the Court of Appeal. They include:
- Justice Sir Dennis Dominic Adjei
- Justice Gbiel Simon Suurbaareh
- Justice Senyo Dzamefe
- Justice Kweku Tawiah Ackaah-Boafo
- Justice Philip Bright Mensah
- Justice Janapare Bartels-Kodwo
- Justice Hafisata Amaleboba
The vetting process will scrutinize the nominees’ legal qualifications, professional experience, integrity, and judicial philosophy to assess their suitability for appointment to the nation’s highest court.
If approved, the appointments will help bolster the Supreme Court’s capacity to address an expanding docket and reinforce public confidence in Ghana’s judicial system.
