President John Dramani Mahama has warmly welcomed Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang back to Ghana, celebrating her recovery as a triumphant victory over the “principalities” and ill-wishers who hoped for her downfall.
The welcome ceremony at the airport included the presence of First Lady Lordina Mahama, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Vice President’s Chief of Staff Alex Segbefia, Methodist Church leaders, and family members.
Speaking after the Vice President’s arrival, President Mahama expressed profound relief and joy at her return.
He remarked, “The prophets who arose after your illness will be happy that you came back, the principalities too, who were wishing the worst, will be very disappointed.”
“It has been a trying time for everybody, and a lot of prayers were said for your safe return. And so today is a special day that you have stepped back in the country, on the land of Ghana, looking younger, looking cheerful,” Mahama added.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’ return signals the end of a three-week medical leave that began on April 7, 2025. The Vice President had initially sought treatment at UGMC after a sudden illness on Friday, March 28, 2025.
Following medical advice, she travelled abroad to continue her recovery as a precautionary measure.
