The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has upgraded Ghana’s economic growth forecast for 2026 from 4.6 per cent to 5.7 per cent, with the government expressing confidence that the country will outperform the revised projection.
The updated forecast signals improved expectations for Ghana’s economic performance, although the government believes growth could exceed the IMF’s latest estimate.
The government’s confidence was conveyed following a meeting in Bangkok between the Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson and the IMF’s African Department Director, Zeine Zeidane.
During the meeting, the Finance Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining fiscal credibility, enforcing financial discipline and implementing reforms aimed at sustaining the country’s economic recovery.
The government considers these measures central to the ongoing economic turnaround and believes continued implementation of the reforms will support stronger growth.
The revised forecast provides a more optimistic outlook for Ghana’s economy in 2026.
However, whether the country will surpass the 5.7 per cent projection will depend on economic performance and the sustained implementation of the government’s fiscal and structural reform measures.
