Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged the newly elected National Executives of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to unite the party, strengthen its grassroots structures and rally behind its flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Mr Akufo-Addo made the call when the new executives, led by National Chairman John Boadu, paid a courtesy call on him at his private office.
During the meeting, the former President stressed the importance of unity, commitment and effective grassroots mobilisation in positioning the party for the next general elections.
He urged the leadership to work towards bringing members together, strengthening the party’s organisational structures and building a cohesive front under Dr Bawumia’s leadership.
The engagement forms part of the new executives’ efforts to consult senior party figures and seek their guidance as they begin their tenure.
The executives reaffirmed their commitment to uniting the party and intensifying mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2028 polls.
They also pledged to work towards securing victory in both the presidential and parliamentary elections, with the goal of returning the NPP to government.
The meeting comes as the party begins preparations for the 2028 general elections, with unity, grassroots organisation and support for its flagbearer emerging as key priorities for the new leadership.
