An officer of the Ghana Immigration Service has been arrested to assist investigations into the deaths of three children whose bodies were found in the boot of a vehicle at Koblimahagu Zoo in the Tamale Metropolis.
The Northern Regional Police Command said preliminary investigations have established that the black Hyundai Tucson, with registration number AS 1770-14, belongs to a personnel of the Ghana Immigration Service.
According to the police, the officer told investigators that the vehicle had been stuck in mud for the past five days. He has since been arrested and is being taken to Accra to assist with the investigation.
The arrest follows the discovery of the bodies of three children – Dauda Abdul Aziz, 3, Saani Alsharaf, 5, and Dauda Fadilan, 7 – inside the vehicle at about 5:00 a.m. on Monday, October 5, 2026.
Police said the children had reportedly left home at about 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 4, for Islamic classes but did not return.
A preliminary inspection of the vehicle showed that the driver’s door and the rear passenger door behind the driver’s seat were open, while the other doors, including the boot, were locked.
The Inspector-General of Police has deployed a special team comprising homicide investigators, crime scene experts and intelligence officers to Tamale to support the Northern Regional Police Command with the investigation.
The vehicle has also been secured for further forensic examination.
Police say the circumstances surrounding the deaths have not yet been established, with an autopsy and further investigations expected to provide more information.
“The outcome of the autopsy and ongoing investigations is expected to provide further information on the circumstances surrounding the deaths,” the Northern Regional Police Command said.
The Command also assured the public that investigations are being pursued to establish what led to the deaths.
“We assure the public that all necessary investigative steps are being taken to determine the circumstances that led to the deaths of the three children. We therefore urge the public to remain calm as investigations continue. Any further updates will be communicated.”
