Former General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has taken an early lead in the party’s National Chairmanship race held in Kumasi on Saturday, October 3, 2026.
Mr Boadu is contesting the position alongside former National Chairman Paul Afoko, former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko and former First Vice Chairman, Sammy Crabbe.
The election forms part of the NPP’s National Delegates Conference, which was held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
The contest is one of the key races in the party’s election of new national officers, with delegates voting to elect a new leadership team to steer the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Mr Boadu, who previously served as the NPP’s General Secretary, sought to return to the party’s national leadership after several years away from the position.
The National Chairmanship election is being conducted alongside contests for other key positions, including General Secretary, First Vice Chairman, Second Vice Chairman, Organiser, Treasurer and Communications Director.
The outcome of the chairmanship contest is expected to form part of the new national leadership structure that will oversee the party’s activities and preparations for the 2028 elections.
Meanwhile, A former MP and Regional Minister, Titus Glover has been elected as National Organizer.
The General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua was retained as General Secretary.
A born grassroots, elections and political animal, Fuseini Yakubu Abanga has been elected as National Youth Organizer.
A woman king and former MP for Awutu Senya East, Hawa Koomson has been elected as Women’s Organizer.
