Parliament is set to reconvene on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, following a formal summons issued by Speaker Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin.
The sitting, scheduled for 12 noon at Parliament House in Accra, has been summoned pursuant to Article 112(3) of the 1992 Constitution and Order 53 of the Standing Orders of Parliament.
In a notice dated September 24, the Speaker stated, “I, RT. HON. ALBAN SUMANA KINGSFORD BAGBIN, THE SPEAKER OF PARLIAMENT, HEREBY SUMMON PARLIAMENT TO SIT ON TUESDAY, 29TH SEPTEMBER, 2026 AT TWELVE NOON AT PARLIAMENT HOUSE, ACCRA.”
The recall follows a petition by the Minority, led by First Deputy Minority Whip Habib Iddrisu, seeking parliamentary scrutiny of recent narcotics seizures linked to Ghana.
The Minority wants Parliament to examine how the consignments were processed and cleared, as well as the effectiveness of security systems at Ghana’s ports and other entry and exit points.
The call for the recall follows major seizures, including nearly 3.9 tonnes of cocaine intercepted at France’s Port of Dunkirk from a container reportedly originating from Ghana, as well as 866 parcels of suspected cocaine seized at Tema Harbour in August.
The recall also comes amid controversy over the attempted arrest of Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) at the Accra High Court on Wednesday.
Parliament will reconvene at noon on September 29.
