The Minority in Parliament has alleged that the driver of Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams and a secretary at the office of the Ministry’s Chief Director have not returned to Ghana after travelling to North America for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ranking Member on Parliament’s Youth and Sports Committee, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, made the allegation on Friday, September 18, 2026, challenging the minister’s reported assertion that all 431 government-sponsored travellers had returned to Ghana.
Mr. Assafuah said the Minority specifically questioned the minister about his driver, identified in the caucus’s account as Mr Okyere, who he alleged was among the sponsored travellers but had not returned.
“I asked him specifically about the fact that his own driver, Mr. Okyere, who was part of the 431, has not returned to Ghana,” Mr. Assafuah said.
He also alleged that a secretary at the Chief Director’s office, identified as Christie, travelled as part of the sponsored group but had not returned.
“We also made an allegation that there is a secretary at the office of the chief director, who is called Christie, who was sponsored as part of those supporters. Today, that person did not come back,” he said.
The Minority is consequently demanding that the Ministry publish the names and passport numbers of all 431 sponsored travellers to enable their return status to be verified.
“We are asking the minister to publish all the 431 people, their passport numbers and their names, as to whether these people actually returned back to Ghana or not,” Mr. Assafuah said.
The dispute follows Mr Adams’ appearance before Parliament’s Youth and Sports Committee, where he reportedly told lawmakers that all 431 people sponsored to attend the tournament had returned to Ghana. The Sports Minister has maintained that position, while the Minority has disputed it.
