Director of Operations for the United Party (UP)-Plus, Hopeson Adorye, has threatened to personally lead a demonstration against Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson if the government pays any outstanding monies owed to former presidential staffers under the immediate past New Patriotic Party administration.
Mr Adorye said the government should instead prioritise efforts to recover state funds allegedly misappropriated by former government officials.
He argued that paying outstanding claims to former presidential staffers would be inappropriate while allegations of financial wrongdoing involving some former officials remain unresolved.
He made the comment while speaking on an Accra-based radio station
Mr Adorye said he would take to the streets to lead a demonstration if the government proceeds with such payments, signalling strong opposition to the move.
He called on the Finance Minister and the government to focus their attention on recovering state resources allegedly lost through misappropriation rather than settling outstanding claims involving former presidential staffers.
