Ghana’s Black Princesses have moved closer to a historic place in the knockout stage after defeating South Korea 3-1 in their second group-stage match.
The victory puts Ghana in a strong position ahead of their final group game against France, with a draw enough to secure qualification for the next round.
The two sides went into the break goalless, but Ghana returned from the interval with greater attacking purpose and broke the deadlock seven minutes into the second half.
Sarah Nyarko opened the scoring in the 52nd minute, giving the Black Princesses the breakthrough they needed.
Ivy Osei extended Ghana’s lead just three minutes later, scoring in the 55th minute to put the team firmly in control of the encounter.
Ghana continued to dominate proceedings and sealed the victory in the 84th minute when Ruth Amponsah found the back of the net to make it 3-0.
South Korea managed to pull one back in the fifth minute of added time, but the late consolation was not enough to spark a comeback as the Black Princesses held on for a convincing 3-1 win.
The result leaves Ghana in a favourable position in the group and with their destiny firmly in their own hands.
The Black Princesses will now turn their attention to France in their final group-stage fixture, knowing that a win or draw will secure their passage to the knockout stage.
Qualification would mark a historic achievement for Ghana, with the team targeting a first-ever progression to the knockout phase of the tournament.
