Ghanaian socialite and media personality Efia Odo has criticised a group of women who advised young women to consider dating married men, describing the message as harmful and irresponsible.
The controversy followed comments made by panellists on a viral podcast, where they reportedly encouraged women to pursue relationships with married men if they believed such relationships could improve their lives.
One of the panellists described married men as potential “destiny helpers” and argued that women should take advantage of opportunities when they arise.
“There is a saying that opportunity comes but once.
So, when certain opportunities come to your door, grab it with your whole heart,” she said.
She further argued that some women may encounter only one “good man” in their lifetime and suggested that, if that man happened to be married, the woman should consider the opportunity.
“Some too will be fortunate to meet countless good men.
So, sweetheart, if for you, your good man is married, and then you feel that you want to fit in life, we are suffering,” she said.
The comments have triggered a strong reaction on social media, with many users criticising the advice for potentially encouraging relationships that could undermine marriages and cause emotional harm.
Efia Odo joined the criticism in a post on X, questioning the reasoning behind the panellists’ comments.
“You can tell when someone is speaking from experience.
I see why they say women are their worst enemies, cuz why would you give such advice?” she wrote.
Her comments have since added to the growing online debate over the responsibilities of public platforms and influencers when discussing relationships and issues that affect young women.
