Relief as government has promised the Coalition of Unpaid Teachers to clear their 17-month salary arrears beginning May 2026 under a structured payment plan.
The group staged a protest march to the Ministry of Finance, where they submitted a petition over what they described as long delays in payment of their earned salaries.
Addressing the protestors, Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Ampem Nyarko revealed that processes had been completed to begin payments.
“Even though the Finance Minister is out of town, he instructed me to conclude the processes and I wrote to Controller to start the payment of your arrears,” he said.
He explained that the arrears would be paid in phases, adding: “That payment will start from May. In May, you will receive four months of arrears, June you will receive another four months, July another four months until the payments are concluded.”
The arrangement is expected to ease financial pressure on the affected teachers, who have been demanding settlement of their outstanding salaries.
