A fatal crash involving a VIP bus and a Toyota Prado has claimed one life and left several others injured at Akyem Sekyere on the Accra–Kumasi Highway.
The accident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, April 2, prompting a swift response from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service.
Due to the severity of the collision, sections of the highway have been temporarily closed, with traffic redirected at Apedwa and Asiakwa to ease congestion and manage the flow of vehicles.
Emergency services transported the injured victims to nearby hospitals, where they are currently receiving medical care.
The incident has caused significant traffic disruption, with long queues forming as many travellers make their way across the country ahead of the Easter holidays.
Motorists travelling from Accra towards Kumasi have been advised to use the Kyebi route from Apedwa, while those coming from Kumasi are being diverted through Asiakwa before reconnecting to the main highway.
Authorities are working to clear the wreckage from the scene to restore normal traffic movement as investigations into the cause of the crash continue.
