Mahdi Gibrill has assumed the role of Acting Director of Elections and Information Technology (IT) for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), taking over the responsibilities previously held by the late Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, who tragically died in a helicopter crash near Obuasi on August 6, 2025.
The appointment, effective immediately, was confirmed by the party’s General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, following a consensus at the Functional Executive Committee meeting on January 13, 2026.
In his new role, Gibrill will oversee all aspects of the party’s electoral management, data systems, and IT operations, while coordinating closely with the General Secretary, the Functional Executive Committee, the National Executive Committee, and other relevant directorates.
“This appointment recognizes your experience, competence, and commitment to the Party,” Kwetey stated in the formal notice, urging Gibrill to ensure the effective execution of his duties in line with the party’s constitution, policies, and regulations.
The NDC emphasized that the appointment is acting in nature and will remain in effect until further notice, highlighting the party’s determination to maintain continuity in its election and technology functions while honoring the legacy of Dr. Omane Boamah.
Gibrill’s assumption of duties comes at a critical time as the party intensifies preparations for upcoming elections, making his role pivotal in ensuring smooth electoral coordination and robust IT systems across all regions.
