Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has referred two ministerial nominees of President John Dramani Mahama to Parliament’s Appointments Committee for vetting and consideration.
The nominees are Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, who has been nominated as Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, and Mahama Ayariga, nominated to head the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
The referral was made during Parliament’s emergency sitting on Monday, August 24, 2026, after Speaker Bagbin communicated the President’s nominations to the House.
In referring the nominees to the Appointments Committee, the Speaker urged members to work within the limited timeframe provided for the emergency recall of Parliament.
He said the Committee was required to complete its vetting and submit its report in time for the necessary motions to be presented before the House in accordance with Parliament’s Standing Orders.
“I accordingly refer the two to the Appointments Committee for consideration and report to the House,” Speaker Bagbin stated.
He further reminded members that the emergency sitting was scheduled for one week and urged the Committee to take the timeframe into consideration as it undertakes its work.
“I want to remind the House that the period I gave in my notice is for a sitting of one week and that should be taken into consideration by the Appointments Committee,” he added.
The Appointments Committee is expected to vet the two nominees and submit its recommendations to the House for consideration and approval.
