The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Promotion Authority (GIPA), Simon Madjie, has urged Ghanaian businesses to take advantage of the capital market to raise long-term financing, strengthen corporate governance and support sustainable growth.
He said the capital market offered businesses an important alternative to traditional sources of financing, particularly at a time when access to long-term capital remained a major constraint to private sector expansion.
Mr Madjie made the call as the Special Guest of Honour at the Ghana Fixed Income Market (GFIM) Admission and Note-Listing Ceremony held at the Ghana Stock Exchange in Accra.
The ceremony marked the successful admission of PETROSOL Platinum Energy PLC to the GFIM and the listing of its maiden bond issuances under a GH¢200 million bond programme.
Mr Madjie described the transaction as a significant milestone for the company and an example of how Ghanaian businesses could utilise the capital market to finance expansion, improve their competitiveness and achieve long-term growth.
He encouraged more businesses to explore innovative financing instruments available on the capital market rather than relying solely on conventional sources of funding.
According to him, access to appropriate long-term financing was critical to enabling Ghanaian companies to expand their operations, invest in productive capacity and compete effectively in both domestic and international markets.
Mr Madjie also highlighted GIPA’s expanded mandate under the GIPA Act, 2026 (Act 1173), which includes promoting and facilitating outward investment by Ghanaian enterprises.
He said the Authority was prepared to support Ghanaian companies seeking to expand their operations into other African markets and beyond.
The GIPA CEO urged businesses to position themselves strategically, improve their corporate governance structures and take advantage of available financing opportunities to drive sustainable expansion.
He said stronger Ghanaian enterprises with access to long-term capital would be better positioned to contribute to economic growth, create jobs and increase Ghana’s competitiveness in the global marketplace.
