The Ministry of Roads and Highways has rejected claims linking a viral social media video showing a road allegedly being removed by hand to road construction projects under its supervision in Ghana.
The Ministry says its checks indicate that the road featured in the footage is located in Liberia, contrary to the impression created by the video’s circulation on social media.
In a statement issued by Kojo Danquah, Spokesperson to the Minister for Roads and Highways, the Ministry described the association of the footage with Ghanaian road projects as misleading.
“The Ministry categorically rejects this misrepresentation. Our checks indicate that the road featured in the video is located in Liberia, not Ghana,” the statement said.
The Ministry warned that the circulation of the footage could mislead the public and create an inaccurate impression of the quality of roads constructed under its supervision.
It stressed that it would not allow misleading content to distort information about its work or undermine public confidence in ongoing road infrastructure projects.
“The Ministry will not allow misleading content to distort the facts about its work or undermine public confidence in ongoing road infrastructure projects,” the statement added.
The Ministry reiterated its commitment to ensuring that road projects across Ghana meet the required construction standards.
According to the statement, the Minister’s ongoing inspection tours of road projects nationwide reflect the Ministry’s commitment to monitoring infrastructure development and ensuring that projects meet the expected standards.
However, the statement did not identify the specific location of the road in Liberia or provide further details about the footage.
The Ministry has urged the public, media organisations and social media users to verify information before publishing or sharing it online.
It warned that misrepresented footage could mislead unsuspecting citizens and weaken informed public discussion about infrastructure development.
“The facts must take precedence over misinformation,” the statement said.
The Ministry also called on Ghanaians to disregard the narrative linking the video to road construction projects under its supervision and to rely on verified information from credible sources.
