About 211,000 delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are expected to cast their ballots today as the party goes to the polls to elect its flagbearer for the 2028 presidential elections.
Voting is taking place at more than 300 polling centres nationwide, in what the party has described as a critical internal democratic exercise aimed at repositioning the NPP ahead of the next general elections.
Five high-profile aspirants are contesting the race. They are Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy Agyapong, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Kwabena Agyepong.
Party officials say preparations for the primary have been largely successful, with logistics deployed early to ensure a smooth and credible process across all constituencies.
The NPP has designated the Ghana Police Service as the sole security agency responsible for maintaining law and order throughout the exercise.
Party leadership has urged delegates to conduct themselves peacefully and in accordance with the party’s rules, stressing that unity after the polls will be key as the NPP prepares for the 2028 general elections.
