President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in Kingston, Jamaica, for a four-day state visit aimed at strengthening diplomatic, economic and cultural ties between Ghana and Jamaica, while deepening cooperation between Africa and the Caribbean.
President Mahama, who arrived on Sunday night, was received with official honours at the Norman Manley International Airport by senior Jamaican officials led by Chief of State Protocol Ambassador Sandra Grant Griffiths and Ghana’s High Commissioner to Jamaica, H.E. Kofi Attor.
The visit, which runs from August 2 to August 5, 2026, is expected to enhance bilateral relations, expand cooperation with the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), and advance the global campaign for reparations for the transatlantic slave trade.
A key engagement on the President’s itinerary is a high-level Reparations Dialogue at the University of the West Indies, where he will join CARICOM Reparations Commission Chairman Sir Hilary Beckles to discuss reparatory justice for African and Caribbean peoples.
President Mahama is also expected to hold bilateral talks with Jamaican leaders on trade, investment, cultural exchange and South-South cooperation.
He will address a joint sitting of Jamaica’s Parliament and visit historical sites, including the Marcus Garvey shrine and the Ghanaian Village Houses at Seville Heritage Park.
His programme also includes a Trade and Investment Dialogue, a tour of the Kingston Freeport, meetings with political leaders, participation in Jamaica’s 64th Independence celebrations, and a state dinner hosted in his honour.
The Presidency says the visit is expected to deepen Ghana-Jamaica relations and position Ghana as a strategic partner for CARICOM’s engagement with Africa.
