Ghana’s pharmaceutical manufacturing sector is set for a major boost with the opening of Expressions of Interest (EOI) for pharmaceutical manufacturers and allied life sciences companies seeking tenancy at the Legon Pharmaceutical Innovation Park (LePIP).
LePIP, described as Ghana’s first integrated pharmaceutical innovation park, is being developed as a 2,000-acre, Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP)-ready pharmaceutical hub.
The park is expected to provide shared infrastructure and centralised quality-control facilities to support pharmaceutical production and innovation.
It will also offer cold-chain and logistics services, research and innovation facilities, as well as access to markets across Ghana, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Pharmaceutical manufacturers and other companies operating across the life sciences sector have been invited to submit Expressions of Interest for tenancy within the park.
Eligible businesses include pharmaceutical manufacturers, Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) producers, vaccine and biologics developers, nutraceutical and herbal medicine companies, as well as diagnostics and medical-device manufacturers.
The initiative is expected to strengthen Ghana’s pharmaceutical manufacturing capacity while creating an ecosystem designed to support research, innovation and the production of health-related products for both domestic and regional markets.
The development of LePIP forms part of efforts to position Ghana as a competitive pharmaceutical manufacturing and life sciences hub within Africa.
