A devastating road accident at Odumase, near Konongo on the Kumasi-Accra Highway, has claimed the lives of at least 13 people, with several others sustaining injuries.
The collision involved three vehicles; a tomato-loaded cargo truck, a passenger bus and an empty fuel tanker. Rescue teams and emergency personnel responded swiftly, pulling victims from the wreckage before transporting the injured to nearby hospitals for medical care.
Although investigators are yet to determine the official cause of the crash, eyewitnesses believe the tragedy occurred after an attempted wrongful overtaking led to a violent head-on collision.
The accident has left traffic heavily disrupted on the busy highway as security agencies continue recovery operations and work to clear the scene.
In a related development, another road crash was recorded at Dadieso, also near Konongo, shortly after the fatal incident, raising fresh concerns about safety along the Kumasi-Accra Highway.
Authorities say the death toll currently stands at 13, but warn that the number could increase as rescue efforts continue and some victims remain in critical condition.
