Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has been elected National Chairman of the party at its National Delegates Conference held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
Mr Boadu secured 2,888 votes to win the chairmanship contest, ahead of former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko, who polled 2,048 votes, while former National Chairman Paul Afoko obtained 490 votes.
The election formed part of the NPP’s national executive elections, which brought together more than 7,000 delegates to elect officers to nine national positions.
The Electoral Commission supervised the voting process.
Mr Boadu’s victory followed a last-minute decision by Sammy Crabbe to withdraw from the chairmanship contest and throw his support behind him.
Mr Crabbe announced the decision as voting got underway on Saturday.
The chairmanship race had initially featured four candidates, with Mr Boadu, Sammy Crabbe, Paul Afoko and Boakye Agyarko listed on the ballot.
Meanwhile, Justin Frimpong Kodua has been re-elected as the NPP’s General Secretary.
Mr Kodua secured 4,486 votes in the contest.
Former Member of Parliament for Ngleshie Amanfro, Sylvester Tetteh, placed second with 1,340 votes, while Eugene Boakye Antwi and Dr Charles Dwamena obtained 162 and 126 votes respectively.
Abanga Fuseini Yakubu was also elected National Youth Organiser after securing 1,550 votes.
He defeated five other candidates in the contest.
Clement Opoku Gyamfi polled 631 votes, while Michael Osei Boateng obtained 78 votes.
Vera Oye Bram-Larbi secured 44 votes, Alfred Kumi Ababio polled 25, and Chris Lloyd Nii Kwei Asamoah received 46 votes.
Former Greater Accra Regional Minister , Titus Glover, was elected National Organizer, Hawa Koomson was elected National Women’s Organizer.
The former National Organizer of the party Henry Nana Boakye was elected Third Vice Chairman.
