The Charge d’Affaires of the Malaysian High Commission in Ghana, Mr Syed Nauzer Idid, has paid a courtesy call on the Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Mubarak-Muntaka, to explore avenues for strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly in the security sector.
The meeting provided an opportunity for both sides to reaffirm the longstanding friendship between Ghana and Malaysia and discuss areas of mutual interest in promoting peace and security.
Mr Idid expressed appreciation to the Interior Minister for receiving him and his delegation, noting that Ghana and Malaysia shared a long history of friendship, mutual respect and common values.
He described the relationship between the two countries as an important partnership, particularly given Ghana’s role in promoting peace and stability within the West African sub-region.
The Malaysian diplomat also commended Ghana’s contribution to international security discussions and expressed the hope that cooperation between the two countries would continue to deepen, especially in areas of mutual security interest.
In response, Hon. Mohammed Mubarak- Muntaka thanked the Malaysian delegation for the visit and reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to strengthening relations with Malaysia.
He said Ghana was ready to deepen security cooperation with Malaysia, stressing the importance of stronger international collaboration in addressing emerging security challenges.
The Minister underscored the need for countries to enhance intelligence sharing, noting that the increasingly complex nature of security threats required effective information exchange, coordinated responses and closer cooperation among security agencies.
He further observed that the security environment was becoming increasingly technology-driven, making it imperative for security institutions to adopt modern technologies and strengthen their operational capabilities.
Hon. Muntaka also raised concerns about the growing threat of illicit drugs and transnational organised crime, calling for enhanced cooperation and intelligence sharing between countries to disrupt drug trafficking networks and other forms of cross-border criminal activity.
