The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and the IMF Africa West 2 Regional Technical Assistance Centre are strengthening collaboration on Customs modernisation, digitalisation and intelligence-led compliance as part of efforts to improve revenue administration.
The partnership is focused on advancing smarter Customs operations, strengthening institutional capacity and adopting modern approaches to tax and Customs administration.
Mr. Ivohasina Fizara Razafimahefa, Centre Director of the IMF Africa West 2 Regional Centre, highlighted the importance of capacity development, technical assistance and institutional strengthening in supporting tax and Customs reforms.
He said sustained investment in these areas were important to building stronger revenue institutions and improving the effectiveness of reforms.
Mr. Kenneth Ochola, Regional Customs Administration Advisor at AFRITAC West 2, emphasised the need for stronger anti-smuggling intelligence, improved coordination among border agencies and the adoption of international standards to advance Customs modernisation.
He noted that enhanced intelligence and cooperation at the borders could contribute to more effective Customs administration and help address smuggling-related challenges.
GRA Commissioner-General, Mr. Anthony Kwasi Sarpong, for his part, stressed the importance of organisational transformation, digitalisation and intelligence-led enforcement in building a more efficient revenue administration.
He said modernising the Authority’s systems and strengthening enforcement through intelligence would be critical to improving compliance and revenue mobilisation.
