President of policy think tank IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has criticised the Court of Appeal’s decision to acquit and discharge former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedinam Christine Tamakloe Attionu.
Reacting to the ruling in a social media post, Mr. Cudjoe questioned the outcome of the case and suggested that political power influences the administration of justice.
“You can steal, you can dupe the state, run away, get extradited back to your country and when your party is in power, you will be free,” he wrote.
He further remarked, “On that note, Ken Ofori-Atta toa so. Live free, Live forever.”
The comments come after the Court of Appeal overturned the conviction of Madam Tamakloe, who had previously been sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment by the High Court after being found guilty of multiple offences, including stealing, causing financial loss to the state, money laundering and breaches of the Public Procurement Act.
The Attorney-General has since announced plans to challenge the Court of Appeal’s decision at the Supreme Court, directing the Director of Public Prosecutions to file a notice of appeal together with an application for a stay of execution of the judgment.
