District Directors of Health Services from across Ghana have undertaken a field experience in selected communities in five districts of the Upper East Region to assess healthcare delivery and gain firsthand insight into the implementation of the Free Primary Healthcare (FPHC) initiative.
The field exercise formed part of the directors’ annual meeting in Bolgatanga, which is focused on reviewing healthcare delivery and exploring strategies to improve health outcomes across the country.
Held during the first week of the FPHC rollout, the exercise provided the directors with an opportunity to observe the implementation of the initiative at the community level.
The team engaged directly with community members and health workers to understand their experiences, gather feedback and identify emerging challenges that could require attention as the programme progresses.
The engagements are expected to provide practical insights to support the effective implementation of the FPHC initiative and improve access to quality primary healthcare.
The field team was joined by the Minister of Health, the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, the Director of the Policy, Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Directorate (PPMED), the Director of the Upper East Regional Health Directorate, and the Deputy Director and FPHC Coordinator of the Institute of Medical Education (IME).
