The Denkyira Traditional Council has called on the government to immediately remove the Upper Denkyira West District Chief Executive (DCE), Isaac Nsiah, and the Central North Police Commander, DCOP Abraham Acquaye, over what it describes as persistent disrespect and bias towards the Denkyirahene, Odeefo Boamponsam IV.
The Council made the demand at a press conference, where it accused the two officials of exhibiting what it described as “subordinate behaviour,” bias and disregard for the authority of the traditional leadership.
Speaking on behalf of the Omanhene, the Gyesehene of the Denkyira Traditional Council, Berima Siaw Payin III, said the traditional authorities could no longer work with the two officials.
“We, the nananom of the Denkyira Traditional Council, can never work with these two individuals. We are calling on the government to immediately remove DCE Isaac Nsiah and Central North Police Commander DCOP Abraham Acquaye from their posts.”
According to him, the conduct of the two officials had demonstrated what the Council considers to be clear bias and disrespect towards the Denkyirahene, a situation he said could no longer be tolerated.
Berima Siaw Payin III further disclosed that the Traditional Council had barred DCE Isaac Nsiah from entering any land under the jurisdiction of the Denkyira Traditional Council.
He said the DCE could continue performing his official duties from his government office but would not be permitted to enter the traditional jurisdiction of the Denkyirahene.
The decision, according to the Council, reflects the seriousness of the disagreement between the traditional authorities and the district administration.
The Dabrahen of the Denkyira Traditional Council, Nana Obeng Nuako II, also reiterated the Council’s position, warning that the DCE must not attend any gathering held on Denkyira traditional lands.
He said should the DCE be found at any such gathering, the Council would call on law enforcement authorities to arrest him.
Nana Obeng Nuako II subsequently appealed to the government, Central Regional Minister, and Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs to intervene immediately to resolve the matter.
The Traditional Council said its decision followed prolonged concerns over the conduct of the two officials and their alleged disregard for traditional customs and the authority of the Denkyira Traditional leadership.
The Council is now awaiting government intervention as tensions between the traditional authorities, the district administration and the security command continue to escalate.
