Businessman and politician Bernard Antwi Boasiako has announced the appointment of former Member of Parliament and legal practitioner Samuel Atta Akyea as his new lead defense counsel in ongoing criminal proceedings against him.
In a statement, Mr. Boasiako said the decision was taken after careful consultation and in the exercise of his constitutional right to legal representation of his choice.
He explained that the change in legal representation is intended to ensure that his defence is effectively presented in accordance with due process.
Mr. Boasiako also expressed appreciation to his previous legal team for their service and commitment, stressing that the decision should not be interpreted as a reflection of their competence or dedication.
He reiterated his commitment to the legal process, noting that the charges before the court are serious and that he intends to fully defend himself under the rule of law.
“As with every accused person, I am entitled to the presumption of innocence until proven guilty,” he stated, adding that the prosecution bears the burden of proving the charges beyond reasonable doubt.
He further indicated that his newly appointed counsel will take steps to review proceedings and make any necessary legal applications in preparation for his defence.
Mr. Boasiako called for calm and urged the public to allow the judicial process to proceed without speculation, expressing confidence that the courts will be guided by fairness, justice and the Constitution.
