Activities marking the 14th anniversary of the passing of former President John Evans Atta Mills have officially been launched, with a commemorative lecture scheduled for Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at the Ohene Konadu Auditorium of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).

Addressing a press conference in Accra, Chairman of the John Evans Atta Mills Memorial Heritage Anniversary Committee, Alex Segbefia, disclosed that the anniversary falls on Friday, July 24, 2026, and that the launch marks the beginning of a series of commemorative activities.

According to him, the anniversary lecture will be delivered by Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng on the theme, “President John Evans Atta Mills, Fourteen Years On.”

The lecture will be chaired by Hanna Serwaa Tetteh.

Mr. Segbefia described the combination of Prof. Frimpong-Boateng as keynote speaker and Ms. Tetteh as chairperson as both unique and refreshing, expressing confidence that the event would attract significant public interest.

The commemorative lecture is expected to begin at 2:00 p.m. at the UPSA auditorium.

As part of the anniversary activities, a wreath-laying ceremony and memorial service will be held at Asomdwee Park on Friday, July 24, 2026, at 9:00 a.m.

President John Dramani Mahama is expected to lay a wreath on behalf of the people of Ghana, while other wreaths will be laid on behalf of Parliament, Mrs. Ernestina Naadu Mills, the Mills family, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the J.E.A. Mills Memorial Heritage, and the Accra Regional House of Chiefs.

The celebrations will continue on Saturday, July 25, with the President John Evans Atta Mills Memorial Hockey Tournament at the Theodosia Okoh National Hockey Stadium in Accra.

The launch event was attended by several prominent personalities, including Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye and Prof. Kwamena Ahwoi.

The J.E.A. Mills Memorial Heritage was established to preserve and promote the legacy, values and ideals of the late President Atta Mills.

Incorporated on October 14, 2021, the organisation seeks to advance his vision of strengthening democratic values, promoting human development and inspiring positive action in society.
