The National Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has congratulated the party’s newly elected National Chairman and other national officers.
The Council has also called for unity as the new leadership begins work ahead of the 2028 general elections.
In a congratulatory message, the NPP elders said the conclusion of the party’s internal elections should now pave the way for efforts to rebuild and strengthen the party.
“Your election comes at an important time in the history of our Party. The contest is now over, and the work of rebuilding and strengthening our Party must begin in earnest,” the statement said.
The Council urged the new National Chairman and other national officers to reach out to all candidates who contested the various positions.
According to the elders, the candidates who were unsuccessful should not be excluded from the party’s activities.
“They should not be seen as opponents or be left on the sidelines,” the Council said.
The elders said the NPP must bring its members together and draw on their experience, knowledge and ideas.
“In the supreme interest of the Party, we must bring everyone on board and make use of the experience, knowledge and ideas of all our members,” the statement said.
The National Council of Elders said unity would be critical to the NPP’s preparations for the 2028 general elections.
“The journey to rescue our nation has begun,” it said.
The Council called for a united and disciplined party behind the NPP’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
“We need a united, disciplined and well-organised Party to rally behind our formidable flagbearer, H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and work together towards victory in the 2028 General Elections,” the Council said.
The NPP elders also assured the new leadership of their continued support as it takes charge of the party.
“As Elders of the Party, our doors will always remain open to you for advice, guidance and discussion,” the Council said.
The Council further urged the new leadership to protect the traditions of the NPP and strengthen its structures.
It said the party must also work to improve its appeal among Ghanaians.
“We have one Party, and it is our collective responsibility to protect its traditions, strengthen its structures, make it attractive to Ghanaians and position it as the Party of choice,” the statement said.
The National Council of Elders concluded its message by congratulating the new National Chairman and all the newly elected national officers.
The Council wished the new leadership wisdom, strength and success as it assumes responsibility for leading the NPP.
The message was issued on behalf of the National Council of Elders following the party’s national elections.
